Enjoy Riding Hoverboard With Some Safety Tips

Safety-Tips-For-Hoverboards

Have You Heard Of The Hoverboard?

The hoverboard comes in many different versions: kid hoverboards, chrome hoverboards, and all-terrain hoverboards being some of them.  A hoverboard is a self-balancing, electronically powered scooter. They were made famous by the levitating hoverboard shown in the hit 1980’s film Back to the Future.  They are like battery powered skateboards, with the rider sitting in on a platform in between two wheels. Lithium-ion cells are used to run Hoverboards. In recent years, their popularity has been dented by safety concerns, like hoverboards exploding, or catching fire when charging, etc…some tips are mentioned below to keep you safe while using your flying machine.

Important Safety Tips

One of the main reasons for the many safety concerns regarding hoverboards is their authenticity. Many people have inadvertently been buying fake hoverboards. Also, expensive hoverboards are not necessarily genuine.  Keeping this in mind, you should stick to specific brands of hoverboards when making a purchase.

For starters, one shouldn’t buy a product like a hoverboard without checking the ratings of the seller unless you are sure the hoverboard has the one you made by the manufacturer you want:

  • You want to be confident that your hoverboard is UL certified.
  • You must treat your gliding machine with care.
  • You should only buy hoverboards made by reputed manufacturers.
  • You should check manufacturer labels for safety information – regarding passing critical safety tests, for example.  The general rule of thumb that an expensive product means better quality may not always apply to hoverboards.
  • You are concerned about your safety and the safety of others, so price considerations do not matter as much when you do thorough research on hoverboards.
  • You need to compare products for quality, safety, reputation, and consumer reviews.

Make sure that you don’t ride the hoverboard over rough bumps, and keep it off of rough pavement: this will ensure that you don’t give yourself the opportunity to get injured, and it will ensure that your hoverboard lasts longer. Remember that it is entirely possible to crash the hoverboard, which could lead to your injury, and damage to the hoverboards. Remember that the hoverboard was meant for safe riding on smooth surfaces, so don’t test your luck on harder or uneven surfaces.

Where you can safely and legally ride is essential, so know this: some places like the U.K. and New York ban hoverboards in public areas for safety concerns – although gliding in private spaces is perfectly fine.  Additionally, riding hoverboards is illegal on some American campuses. Keep in mind that your hoverboard may have to stay at home if you frequently fly because some airlines have banned them.  You will have to check which airlines these are beforehand. Some states, campuses, and airlines have made them illegal because of the many safety concerns associated with them in the past.

Never treat your hoverboard like a smart device or a laptop and charge it overnight: Your average hoverboard takes anywhere from one to four hours to charge, after that, it is revved up and ready to go. Many people assume that a hoverboard acts the same way that a smart device or laptop does and charge it for a much more extended period, or even, overnight, and that’s where the problems start. Hoverboards are NOT like smart devices which switch off and stop consuming power when fully charged. First of all, your hoverboard could catch fire if it is loaded for too long, and you could end up starting building and house fires as a result, which no one wants!  Your hoverboard could explode if overcharged, and this can cause a great deal of personal and property damage. You are better off only powering your flying machine during the daytime, and using an outlet with enough space to accommodate it adequately.

Familiarize yourself with the hoverboard before using it excessively: They say ‘practice makes perfect,’ and the same is true with your hoverboard. The more you practice on familiar and safe streets, and private property, the better you will be able to glide on and ride it.  You should always wear safety gear when sliding because remember that even the safest and the sturdiest hoverboards are not 100% accident prone, thus still using helmets, knee, and elbow pads are essential.

Since balancing your body is key to riding your gliding machine safely and effectively: you want to be careful of the ways in which you stand on your hoverboard.  This means standing straight, maintaining proper posture, and not bending your knees when standing on this gliding machine. You want to look ahead and keep your legs spread apart.  You also want to know when to get on and off of the hoverboard so that you don’t lose your balance and fall over or get injured in some other way!

It takes some intuitive knowledge which comes with practice to know exactly when to step on and off of the hoverboard: Also, never ride your hoverboard the same way you would a skateboard, which means that you do NOT want to ride it down a ramp or a steep flight of stairs.  Doing so could permanently damage your hoverboard, and injure you. The trick to getting on and off of the hoverboard is to do so one foot at a time. You get off by walking backward, and by using your dominant foot first.  Unlike skateboards, hoverboards are powered by powerful lithium batteries, meaning that the cells could leak, and explode if the hoverboard is being used to vigorously. For obvious reasons, no one wants that!

You should only ride your flying machine at low speeds and on relatively flat and smooth surfaces:

Many people have become wary of buying and using hoverboards because of all of the media reported incidents of hoverboards exploding, catching fire, or both when misused. New improvements in hoverboard quality and safety standards are slowly changing these attitudes.

Be careful when riding at night: Riding at night is going to be more dangerous because of reduced visibility. You can be safe by being careful. For starters, wear white or reflective clothing so that people on the road can see you – they are more likely to not bump into you this way.  You should wear shoes that light up for extra illumination, and only ride on well-lit streets, again for extra visibility.

Never crash your hoverboard into objects, doing so could cause the battery to explode and the hoverboard to catch fire

Becoming a Pro on a hoverboard: The key to this objective is practicing gliding indoors as much as possible because you are more likely to crash into objects or fall off when using it outdoors, and you will sustain fewer injuries and less personal embarrassment when practicing indoors where fewer people – who you may or may not know – can see you.

Additionally, you do not face the damage of being sued or having to go through your insurance company if you bend the fender of an unknown neighbor’s car after your hoverboard violently bumps into it – yes hoverboards have been known to cause significant property damage.   You can damage more than just your neighbor’s car if you are a novice and you initially practice outside. You could also bump into other people if starting out, and this can lead to a lot of headache and expensive hospital bills and lawsuits, which you will be responsible for.

When you start to practice on the hoverboard, stay away from sharp or breakable objects, like knives, plates, vases, lamps, bowls, etc…You want to concentrate on knowing how to maintain your balance, accelerate, decelerate, and stop safely.

You want always to go slow when riding a hoverboard because you have no added protection, even if you are wearing full protective gear.  While a helmet and safety pads can cushion some of the blow of a spill on the sidewalk or a rough road, they can not fully prevent it.

Check These Best Hoverboard Bags That Suits Your Hoverboard Safety

As you guessed it, they are designed to protect your hoverboard and to help you transport it around while walking. Hoverboard bags come in many different varieties: from those you carry in your hands, to hoverboard bags you move around your shoulder with a strap, to bags that are fire resistant, allowing you to house the hoverboard in the bag while charging it. Because most hoverboards weigh about the same as a small toddler - 22 pounds - you will want to use a carrying bag to help you transport it around easier when not in use. Additionally, you will want a bag because it will be easy to store when the hoverboard is out of juice and can not be used.

Hoverboard bags are relatively inexpensive - ranging from $ to $$, depending on the brand you choose. You want to make sure that your hoverboard will fit comfortably in the bag. That means that it can’t be too large or small. Since most hoverboard bags fit the 6.5-inch board, you may need to use a custom-made bag for larger hoverboards.

If you can easily sling the bag over your shoulder, then you should choose a bag with a shoulder strap. Most hoverboard bags have straps designed to, either hold them in your hand or carry them on your back. Since your bag can protect your hoverboard, you want to choose a waterproof bag, because your hoverboard will be ruined if its motor and battery get water in them.
